Then it it hit me. Eva takes place some time after the events of the Raildex series. You see, Aleister Crowly's plan to turn earth into an artificial Heaven succeeded, and thus artificial "angels" were created. The very same creatures in Eva! But his plan backfired and... well, you know what happened. That punk from Index eventually went on to become a scientist like many people in Academy City, as well as took up in interest in guitar playing.
